Smoresoft Sudoku 1.2 Preview 9 Released
« on: August 01, 2006, 08:31:12 AM »
NOTE: Uninstall any previous version of the game before installing this release.

  • NEW: Spanish translation (thanks Erick!)
  • NEW: "Purple" theme is installed with main download.
  • CHANGE: Moved "Sampler" puzzle pack to the "Puzzles" folder.
  • CHANGE: Renamed "Smoresoft.com Smoresoft Sudoku" to "Smoresoft Sudoku" in the "Remove Programs" menu.

Unless any problems are found with this preview, it will become the final version 1.2.

Enjoy!

I moved it under the heading "Preview Release". I think this was probably not a good change since nobody can find it now. :)

The web site is being redesigned over the next few days and the new design should make the downloads a lot easier to find.

Somehow I'm to stupid to even find this one...  :o
Do you mean it's on your webpage? At http://www.smoresoft.com/sudoku/ ? No, I scanned it several times, but I still don't find it...  ???

Try searching on the page for the word "Preview".  If you find Preview 8 or earlier, then you have an older version of the page.  Try clearing your browser cache to get the new version.

If you don't find any Preview version on the page, you can use this direct link for now:

http://www.smoresoft.com/downloads/Smoresoft.SudokuSP.1.2.0.9.cab.

Gives me a 404

The only preview link on your site is for Preview 8

Just an FYI :) Great work!

I had to move my site to a new IP address recently, and it sounds like your browser is still connecting to the old address.  This should fix itself eventually as the new address is propagated through the domain name system cache.

I've copied the new release to the old site, so the link in this thread should work now--for as long as the old site is still around.

If you're running Windows, you can try running the command "ipconfig /flushdns" and then closing and reopening your browser.

If you know how to troubleshoot DNS, the IP address returned for "www.smoresoft.com" should be 64.62.196.10.  If nslookup doesn't agree, then you can temporarily update your hosts file.  If none of this makes sense, don't worry about it.  It should fix itself in the next couple of days.

Motorola Q "Bug"

Having switched to the MotoQ, the biggest issue I have is the input mode.  Once you start the game, you have to know to press the ALT key twice to enable "num lock" mode.  Unfortunately if you do this, then the menu shortcuts don't work.  On qwerty devices, the menus automatically use letter shortcut keys, and not the typical 1-9 keys.

Ideally the game shouldn't care about case and just accept the regular keys on qwerty devices and map them to numbers.  There's a registry key that holds the correct mapping values.  I can point you to it if that helps.  Another option is to automatically switch the input mode to numbers mode, and override the menu keys to toggle the mode back while the menu is open, and then back again to numbers mode when it resume.  I think the 1st approach is easier to code.  Feel free to contact me by email if you want any help coding this up.

Hopefully this is something you can take as part of the 1.2 release.

Thanks!
-.dennis

You might want to include the Swedish translation? :)

Thanks for the info, Dennis!  I've been wanting to fix this and was looking for a way to automatically switch to numeric input mode without success.  I considered mapping the alpha keys to numbers myself, but the Q and the Treo have different mappings.  The regkey with the proper mapping would solve that problem nicely.  If you could point me to the location of the key, that would be great.

Well, Dennis seems to have disappeared, and I don't want to wait any longer to release version 1.2.

Dennis, if you are around, I'd still appreciate the information for version 1.3.

Thanks!
