Number for Exit Menu option?
« on: June 21, 2006, 07:21:30 PM »
With 1.1.0.3, the Exit option no longer has a shortcut number to select it.  Any chance it could be added back?  I know there are only 10 items you can have before you run out of numbers, but maybe there should be two menus (one for each context key).  You could have the "File" type options under one, and the "Game" options under the other?  My suggestion:

File
New
Restart
Open
Create
Options
About
Exit

Game
Undo Mode
Bookmark
Full Screen
Set Pencil Marks
Statistics

You bet.  I'll do some re-arranging for the next release.  The developer guidelines from Microsoft say that you shouldn't have a menu on the left softkey.  I may use submenus, or, if I may make "Full Screen" a sticky option (e.g., you stay in full screen mode until you turn off the option), I may move it to the Options dialog and free up one item in the menu so I only have 10 again.

Awesome, thanks!  I understand about the left softkey.  Any way to make that user configurable?

Let me know when I'm asking too much!

Yes, the left softkey could be made configurable.  What would you switch it to?

In version 1.2.0.1, I moved "Set Pencil Marks" and "Set Bookmark" under a new "Assistance" submenu, so there are only 10 items now on the main menu.

Great, thanks!  In answer to your previous question, I would probably set the left softkey to "Set Pencil Marks", since that is the first thing I do when I start a new game.  However, I could also see people wanting to toggle "Undo Mode" or to "Set Bookmark".

As always, great work!

Why not put Assistance submenu (undo mode, bookmarks, set pencil marks, ...) on the left softkey, and the rest of the menu on the right softkey ?

Because Microsoft says it's a no-no...

I'll start a new topic on the shortcut keys and the left softkey.  I do want to address this somehow.

Microsoft also says that, in order to shut your computer down, you need to use the Start button.  ;D
