Hi David,

Here's the new French translation, as promised. I'll try to test it with the new version ASAP.

I've subscribed to the notification thread so I'll help for future versions.

Cheers,

Hi David, long time no see !

I'm proud to see that you haven't forgotten the ones who once helped you ;)
Unfortunately, I don't own a MS Smartphone anymore, so I won't be able to install and test this final full version... but I've seen that on the new website, you didn't have a French language pack anymore. If you want my help, please send me your English .resx file and I'll be glad to translate it again (you've got my e-mail). Also, if you want a French translation of the strings you use on the Website, send them to me and I'll see what I can do. It's not because I don't have a Smartphone anymore, that I'm not willing to help my French fellows to have a great game to play with in their own language ;)

Thanks again for your work.

I second that, some users aren't always sure of that they're doing. But for my part, I'd prefer that feature to be disactivable on the options page ^^

Okay... for now I am in search of a new apartment, because I'm no longer a student starting from these holidays. It should take me a few weeks to move out of here in my new place, and have my Internet connection following me, but as soon as I'm settled, I'll handle that.

Because Microsoft says it's a no-no...

Microsoft also says that, in order to shut your computer down, you need to use the Start button.  ;D

Why not put Assistance submenu (undo mode, bookmarks, set pencil marks, ...) on the left softkey, and the rest of the menu on the right softkey ?

Feature Requests / About Highlighting

Just a little message before going to work: could the highlighter remember the last digit it was highlighting ? I think this simple feature doesn't need any more explanation, and could be quite handy. What do you think?

If you really need it, starting from next week I'm in holidays so I'll be able to develop a little editor for the .resx files in Delphi or PHP, and maybe a puzzle pack editor, too. Perhaps you could point me to some information regarding the compilation of .resx files to a redistributable .cab ? Maybe we could put all the .resx files in some kind of public repository, and anyone could be able to read this repository and translate the .resx in their own language, and submit their translations. What do you think of this ?

Translations / French translation for the Website
« on: June 21, 2006, 12:06:53 PM »
Hey David,

Here are the two main pages of the website, default.html and puzzles.html (www.smoresoft.com/sudoku and http://www.smoresoft.com/sudoku/puzzles.html) in their French version. I don't feel there's a need to translate the changelog, but if you absolutely want it, I can do.

Concerning the French accents and typography, I turned every accent into HTML entities. Please also note that before double ponctuation signs such as '!', '?', ':' and ';', there's a non-breakable space in French (whereas in English it's "hello!", in French it's "salut !").

If you need any other translation, let me know.

Whooops... here it is, the good one.

For the MUI interface, just take a look at the \windows directory on any smartphone. There you'll find dlls and exes which native language is American English, and say that you take something.dll, you'll also find something.dll.040C.mui for the French translation, something.dll.0410.mui for  Italian (not sure), etc... I have no idea how all of this is implemented, all I know is that when you open .mui files in Restorator or VS Resource editor on the computer, you can modify the strings and the bitmaps. So it must be some kind of resource-only DLL.

(BTW, MUI stands for Multilingual User Interface, apparently it's also used on Tablet PCs and will be used in Vista, too).

Concerning the website, I'll be translating it as soon as I got some time. I'll upload it there ASAP.

I too am feeling that assistance is starting to look more like assistantship (maybe this sentence has no meaning in English, but in French, assistantship means that you're too much assisted). Automatic pencilmarks and snapshot are very great features, but automatic singles is way too assistive.

I was not speaking of animations for auto-singles. Animations are useless, especially on low-end devices such as smartphones. Instead, I was just thinking of a small delay, say 1/4s or 1/3s between each auto-single. That could be (imho) easily implemented, there must exist a Delay() or Sleep() function in the standard libraries, huh?

Here comes the new .fr.resx.

By the way, why don't you use the MUI interface provided by Windows Mobile for translations ?

Edit : if you want a French version of the page located at http://www.smoresoft.com/sudoku/, please just let me know, it's no problem for me. That would perhaps help to better spread your game (and as I said, I could advise it to my French customers).
