My first post here

My wife simply loves Sudoku so I thought I'd translate it for her

I've done some translations before (AIDA32 for example, nowadays Lavalys Everest), but I haven't that much experience from Sudoku. So if I've translated any Sudoku-specific terms wrong, please let me know and I'll update the translation.

I can't read it, but there is a Swedish Wikipedia article on Sudoku at http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudoku, in case it can be of help with the terminology.

The biggest differences between English and other translations that I've noticed so far has been the use of the word "candidate" instead of literally translating "pencil mark", and the use of the word "grid" instead of "puzzle".

You're right

It's called "candidates" in Swedish too. I've updated the translation file above to reflect this.

One question; "highlightSetsMenuItemText", what exactly does that do? Does it mark all cells that you've set as a candidate?

"highlightSetsMenuItem" describes the action that highlights all cells with the selected number of candidates.

For example, if you want to highlight all cells with two candidates, you can choose this menu item and then press the number "2" on the keypad. This can make it easier to spot naked pairs.

So a rough translation could be "Highlight Candidates" ?

No, there is another item for "Highlight Candidates" which highlights all of the candidates with the selected value.

For example, to highlight all of the "1" candidates, you would choose "Highlight Candidates" and then press the "1" key. This can help to make it easier to spot box-line reductions.

"Highlight Sets" is probably confusing even in the original English version, but so far I haven't come up with a better way to succinctly express the concept.

You're right!  I need to add credits in the About dialog.  Unfortunately, it doesn't support scrolling at this time and there isn't room to add credits without rewriting the dialog.  I'll add it in the next preview release (before releasing 1.2).  It may be a few days before I'm able to work on that.

Swedish translation updated to version 1.5.

I really don't like that the Sudoku has gone commercial since I made this translation under the premises that it's free, and I made the translation for free. No discussions has been made with me under which premises my translation can be used (which I also think is the reason why many haven't responded to the updates).

I'd like to continue to give Smoresoft Sudoku away and accept donations to cover costs, but after two years and around 100,000 downloads (I stopped counting), I received only twelve donations.

I continue to accept translations on a volunteer basis and host them on the Smoresoft site as a free download.
