Hi Thomas,

I included the puzzle packs in the main download now, since not having them was causing a lot of support issues.

However, that means if you already installed the puzzle packs in a different location than the game, you'll see duplicates.

This is a bit of an unfortunate mess if you've already made progress on the downloaded puzzle packs and don't want to lose that saved progress.  You may just delete the set of puzzle packs that were installed with the game.

If you'd like to take an early look at the next release, which includes the fix above, you can download it at http://www.smoresoft.com/downloads/Smoresoft.SudokuWM.1.7.cab.

Note that this release includes the Smoresoft puzzle packs in the main download, so you don't have to download them separately. It adds 10KB to the download size, but it's less than downloading the puzzles separately, and most people get them all anyway.

Thanks for bringing this bug to my attention!

I was able to reproduce the problem with Assistance Level = "Flag illegal pencil marks".  I will ensure this is fixed for the next release.

Let me know if you are seeing the problem with a different assistance level.

Smoresoft Sudoku 1.6 has been released. You can read the announcement here.

After installing version 1.6, you can "tap and hold" on the screen to access the menu in full screen mode.

Note that you will encounter installation errors if you try to install version 1.6 while version 1.5 is still running.  If you cannot exit version 1.5 because of the full-screen mode problem, soft-reset the device before installing version 1.6 (or, if you have a task manager utility, end the process).

I'm pleased to announce the release of Smoresoft Sudoku 1.6!

This is a minor update primarily to address usability with touch screen devices that don't have softkeys (e.g., the HTC Touch).

If you've already purchased a registration code for Smoresoft Sudoku, you can upgrade for free. Just exit the game and download and install the latest version from http://www.smoresoft.com/sudoku/download.html.  No need to re-enter your registration code--your previous registration will be automatically detected.

Change List:

  • New: Tap-and-hold menu access (touch screen devices only).
  • Change: Replaced the "close" button on the floating input window to an "undo" button (touch screen devices only).
  • Change: Sorted puzzle pack list in "Open..." dialog.
  • Change: Added "Statistics" to the main menu
  • Change: Moved "Undo" to the Assistance menu
  • Change: Replaced some of the puzzles in the trial puzzle pack with easier puzzles.
  • And a number of other cosmetic and diagnostic improvements.

Hi sofiane,

The full screen mode setting is stored in the Smoresoft.Sudoku.exe.config file, so taking out the battery and resetting the device won't help (the config file will still be there). You may want to try exiting then uninstalling the game and deleting everything in the "Smoresoft Sudoku" directory before reinstalling, in order to be sure that you've really deleted the config file.

Version 1.6 will resolve this problem. It will be released in the next 24 hours, so you may prefer to wait for that.

Sorry, there is no French version of the Smoresoft site.

Hi Jeremy,

Good question! Version 1.6 was briefly released and then pulled after an issue was found with the trial version. If you upgraded from a previously registered Version 1.5, then all was well.  However, the trial version of 1.6 was broken, and it was impossible to register.

I will be re-releasing version 1.6 in the near future.  If you can get past the registration problems for the 1.6 version you have, then it should be fine--there are no other known issues with that release.

Glad to hear you're still enjoying the game! A brand new set of puzzle packs are under development and should be available in the next couple of weeks as well.

As a temporary workaround, if you get stuck in full screen mode and can't get out, you can do the following:

1. Stop the game using a task manager (or soft reset the device).
2. Delete "Program Files\Smoresoft Sudoku\Smoresoft.Sudoku.exe.config" using File Explorer.
3. Start the game (and don't select Full Screen mode again).

Note that File Explorer hides the file extension by default, so it will look like "Smoresoft.Sudoku.exe" but won't have the Smoresoft Sudoku icon next to it.

Hi Simon,

Yes, you are missing something--buttons!  Full screen mode was designed to work with devices that have hardware buttons for the softkeys.

I'll look into a solution for making the menus work without buttons for an upcoming release.

The smoresoft.com web site was down yesterday after the Internet service provider hosting the site shut down without warning. The site has been moved to a new ISP, but some recent forum posts and attachments may be lost.
